CCAS: Colorado Companion Animal Sanctuary
Hey there! Welcome to CCAS, a cozy little sanctuary in Bailey, Colorado, where we give a forever home to cats with special medical needs. We've been around for almost ten years, and we've been through a lot – from a fire and a five-year rebuild to COVID and more. We're real survivors!
Some of our cats have been best buddies and roommates for a decade, while others have been with us for about five years. Our sanctuary is the final stop for these animals to live out their lives in peace. Over the years, we've sadly lost some of our furry friends to illnesses, often unrelated to their main medical issues. It's always tough for both the humans and the animals.
Feel free to check out our memories page to see the kitties who have moved on to their next adventures – hopefully with perfectly healthy bodies, if there's any justice in the world.
It All Began Izzy
CCAS wouldn't be here if it weren't for the magical little girl in the photo - Izzabella. Izzy was a tiny, beautiful, loving, sweet kitty, a Manx/Flame-point Siamese born with Manx syndrome - feline spina bifida. There's no cure for Manx Syndrome, but it's manageable with a bit of human help. The daily treatments involve manually emptying the bladder and bowel. Before you judge, just know that once you learn how to do it, the actual procedure only takes five minutes 3 or 4 times a day - and it's better than dealing with a litter box!
Once we got the hang of her daily care, we also learned that most cats born with this condition are euthanized or die as kittens before anyone knows there's a problem. After our 18-year-old cat passed away, we decided to start a small sanctuary for those deemed unadoptable and at risk of euthanasia. And that's how CCAS was born.
